In last week's show we took a swerve from introspective indie to summery pop. I enjoyed the change, so followed the trail from Everything All the Time's "I Get So Hot", to these beauties.

  1. The Balconies - Lulu [Download for free]
  2. Forest City Lovers - Sullen Seas [Buy from iTunes]
  3. Great Bloomers - Find My Way [Buy from iTunes]
  4. Gentleman Reg - Coastline [Buy from iTunes]
  5. The Hidden Cameras - In the NA [Buy from iTunes]

Not quite sure what my favourite is just yet, but by next week's show you'll certainly be in the know. Or the na. Or not.

Incidentally, I don't know what the deuce was wrong with my microphone on this recording. I'll have a man in to take a look at it. In the meanwhiletime, enjoy the show and drop me a comment if you've any recommendations of your own.

The first - and wettest - in our series of pubcasts. Our first pub was the Gun Barrells in Selly Oak - or Bournebrook if you please. We started outside, but the rain quickly put pay to that.

Hopefully as the weather starts to behave, we'll be doing this in the great outdoors, so there won't be quite the fight to hear what everyone's saying. I also lost a bit of audio this week, as the hard-drive on my lappie couldn't quite keep up.

Enjoy, and we'll do some more soon!

This week my musical journey took me from last week's favourite, Civil Twilight by the Weakerthans, a new, poppier destination via five stops. And here is what they are:

  1. Constantines - Working Full-Time [Buy from iTunes]
  2. Attack in Black - Let Wander Your Restless Hearts [Buy from iTunes]
  3. English Words - Rope [Find it on their website]
  4. Bishop Morocco - Last Year's Disco Guitars [Buy from iTunes]
  5. Everything all the Time - I Get So Hot [Buy from iTunes]

I'm quite pleased that in two weeks, I've essentially achieved my goal of going from one genre to another, completely separate one. With a broader spectrum of tracks this week, next week's should yield interesting results. See you there!

And if you want to throw any recommendations into the mix, or you want to sway my decision at all, drop me a comment and I'll give you a shout.

Welcome to the first, and possibly last edition of the Junction podcast. It's a musical journey based on recommendations, so if you feel emotionally affected by any of the music you hear, please recommend something you think might be better for my ears.

Tracklisting

  1. Woods - I Was Gone [Buy from iTunes]
  2. The Mountain Goats - No Children [Buy from iTunes]
  3. Manchester Orchestra - Where Have You Been? [Buy from iTunes]
  4. The Weakerthans - Civil Twilight [Buy from iTunes]
  5. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - The Mighty Sparrow [Buy from iTunes]

This is very much an experiment. I've no idea if it'll work, be worthwhile or interesting, but I do know that I've found at least four songs I'm happy to play again. I'll pick a favourite out of the last four for the next show, and use that for the basis of the next leg of the journey, but if you'd like to recommend a band, drop me a comment.

Last Wednesday, some people more committed than I spent 11 hours (some less...fewer...um) on the number 11 bus, in aid of Jon Bounds' psychogeography project, 11-11-11. To honour the occasion, this is my 2-minute number 11 song, featuring the names of all the bus stops slong this famous route.

I had a cold when recording this, so my voice is a bit off, but nevertheless Jon and Gavin had the world exclusive first ever play on their Rhubarb Radio show, The Big Paws. (It's on Saturdays, 8 til 10am. Give it a damn listen why don't you.)

Here's a song for anyone who's ever uploaded a video only to find it's not the instant viral sensation you thought it would be. All parts, including strangled vocals and excluding the drums are played by me. Sorry.

If you have an idea for a song I should do, lemme know and I'll see if I can't make it happen next Sunday.

I like to listen to Adam and Joe ("but I listen to the podcast, not the live show"), and now that I finally have the tools I thought I'd send in a jingle for one of their now, more regular slots, in which they feature jokes penned by listeners.

Adam complained a couple of weeks ago that people were appropriating Joe's singles more than his, so I thought I'd have a bash at doing one for the madeup jokes segment. I don't know if anyone else has submitted jingles for this bit; I certainly don't remember hearing them played out, so here's my attempt.

This week the theme was Libras. Yeah, the star sign. I know, that's what I said, but who am I to challenge the weighty intellect and mighty stature of Danny Smith? I've had a good ol' rant on this one, and played a bit of piano.

Hear the show live every Saturday from 7pm on www.rhubarbradio.com, and find them on Twitter where they are @techdiff.
