I started podcritique.com, my podcast review blog back in July, as a way to establish myself as more of an authority on podcasting, without realising that the best way to be an authority on something is to do that thing, and do it well.

I'd finished Back of the (Inter)net series 1, and had stepped down from hosting my Sunday Social show on Rhubarb Radio. So there was an audio void left to fill, and when someone isn't creating something, the easiest thing to do is to critique someone else's work.

My first experience with the site was really positive, after giving a sympathetic, but fair review of Brumcast, one of the UK's finest music podcasts. But it's so easy to drift into negativity, especially when it's disguised as impartiality.

Because of a comment I made about one particular podcast, I had to stop listening to it because I got so fed up with the childish rebukes that kept coming every week; a podcast I probably would have enjoyed were it not for that. And while that experience has certainly left a bitter taste in my mouth, it wasn't the sole reason for wanting to stop.

I'm quite sure that it's possible to run a podcast review site that focuses more on the positives than the negatives. It was never my intention for that to happen I should add, but it eventually seemed the default position, and a fresh approach to writing might be able to turn that around.

It's a very young site, and will be good excercise for a budding - or jobbing - writer. I'm @moxypark on Twitter if you fancy the idea. I'm still happy to host it, but equally happy to hand over the reigns entirely.
